The Different Types of Sports Memorabilia
Whether you view your memorabilia collection as an investment for the future, something you do for the love of the game, or a little bit of both, it pays to know what you’re looking at. To give you a head start in the world of sports memorabilia we’ve taken a look at some of the main categories on offer.
This is probably the most sought after category because of its uniqueness. Whether you’re looking for a jersey worn by Babe Ruth or one of the gloves used to throw punches in the Rumble in the Jungle this is the category for you. All game-used memorabilia should come with a certificate of authenticity, and will also often be signed by the athlete who wore it.
Not every shirt you see signed by David Beckham will have been worn by him but that doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy with what you’re buying. The biggest athletes will have signed just about everything there is to sign so there should be plenty of options out there for you. If you have your heart set on a particular strip or shirt then shop around and you’ll find it sooner rather than later. Make sure you get a certificate of authenticity that proves the signature is authentic.
This is one of our favourite categories because of how rare the items can be. Rather than pursuing individual items signed by the star players in a team why not search for a single jersey or ball that has the whole team on it? These items typically go up quickly in value because of the number of different signatories needed to create another one. A great choice for sports memorabilia hunters who love team sports.
